Im facing a new dilemma,,one I havent seen addressed here. Im 2 and a half years out, and bored to death with my menu!! There are so many things I still cant tolerate! I cant eat meats, except for chicken breast, lean ground and pork roast and ham. I cant eat vegetables, except lettuce,(and it has to be fresh. the salad in the bag makes me soooo sick!) Cant do broccoli, cauliflower, squash, celery, carrots. Cant eat eggs escept once in a great while in egg salad. That doesnt always sit well either. cant eat fruits, except for an occasional orange or grapefruit, bananas do well but are so high carb I cringe, watermelon, but its high sugar content. No apples or peaches or anything like that. Hubby took me out for my birthday, and all I could eat was vegetable soup, which I make a lot of at home,. along with chili and beans,,but Im missing sitting down to a meal! What a waste of time and money to go out! I didnt say anything to him about it, but I was so depressed. Is this some kind of delayed reaction Im having to losing the ability to eat like I used to? If anyone has any ideas for a menu change, please post em! Im desperate. I used toost on Lindas daily post, but Ive been so depressed lately I figure, its the same old same old,,why bother! HELP! Wow Betsy, that is strange.  I am just about a week or so ahead of you and I can eat most things.  I still do not tolerate more than about 9 grams of sugar at a time, which I don't need anyway.  I cannot eat chicken unless it is ground or in a chicken salad or very small.  Steak, well it makes me sick still.  However, I can eat pork, ground beef and all seafoods.  Talk to your surgeon and make sure everything is ok with you.  I hope things get better for you.

Hi Betsy, Sorry to hear you have such troubles with food, not something I have too often, at least so far, have you tried getting a bariatric cookbook and seeing if any recipes jump out at you that you can use within what you can tolerate? Here's a simple recipe for a meatloaf, I make it with ground turkey, though you can use any other ground meat. . . 1 to 1-1/2 lbs of ground meat 1 egg 1 medium onion chopped or grated    chopped garlic to suit your tastebuds (I use 2 or 3 cloves) 1 packet of low sodium chicken bullion in appropriate amount of ho****er  1-1/2 to 2 cups of Pepperidge Farm herb stuffing (or some similarly herb type of stuffing) (for purposes of carb count, I consider each serving I eat as a 1/2 slice bread) 5 tablespoons of grated Locatelli cheese (or a reasonably similar type) pepper to taste Use the low sodium chicken bullion to moisten the stuffing mix Mix all the ingredients, shape into a loaf or a put in a loaf pan and bake at 375 for 1 hour, if you like and can tolerate it, pour a small can of tomato sauce over the top the last 15 minutes, you can sprinkle with orgegano or italian seasonings if you like. . . Another way, my daughters like it this way, is I would mash potatoes, make a bottom in a pie pan, fill with potatoes and use the rest on top, pinching closed, of course, potatoes aren't really for us, but if making for family, we can take the potato part out and not eat it. . . It's usually quite moist and tasty. . .

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . .  It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . .  Laureen

Hi Betsy.... I am grasping at straws with this... but I gotta try and help! I have to ask - How long has it been since you have tried some of those foods? .... my tolerances have changed a lot over the past couple of years, and still seem to be changing. I loved milk, then couldn't touch the stuff or any milk products except cheese.... yogurt sent me to the bathroom for an hour... now I love yogurt and not only tolerate it, but it really helps my digestion. I didn't read anything about fish or any other seafood... one of the best things to have! How much of that list is "can't tolerate" VS: "Don't like"? If we discuss this we are bound to find a solution, or at least some foods to add to your list!

Thanks for the in put Marc ! As to the "dont like", I think part of the problem is I DO like!! All of it!! I really miss a good steak, or pork chop. As to the seafood, that is one thing I CAN tolerate! We went to Red Lobster awhile back, and I had crab cakes and shrimp, and it was great! I forget about that tho!!  I tried salad just a couple nights ago,,no go,, I think Im gonna do an experiment this week, and try something new (old??) every day, and keep track. Maybe I am just in a rut with my menu, used to eating the same stuff..I got some interesting recipes emailed to me from another post I made on the main board, so Im trying some of those. Right now I have salsa chicken in the crockpot, gonna cover it with cheese, found some frozen spinach in the freezer,,(plus a case of fish I had forgotten about!!), gonna make some jello for dessert. I never sit down to an actual meal.. Ya know, Im beginning to think I just got lazy..... Blessings Betsy
